VRVis - Leading in Visual Computing

Visual Computing (Visualization, Rendering, Visual Analytics, Computer Vision and Virtual Reality) has already become a key technology for industry and society. The clear preparation of ever increasing amount of data as well as the creation of digital clones from real objects are enabling an efficient handling of information. New fields of research, production- and operation methods are realized which would have been unthinkable only a few years back. VRVis is Austria's leading research company in the field of Visual Computing. Together with the Institute for Computer Graphics at the Vienna University of Technology and the Science Academie of Austria - Visualization Group VRVis forms the second largest computer graphics research group in Europe.

Currently VRVis employs about 50 highly qualified researchers at the TechGate in Vienna. It is an active partner for research initiatives of the federal government and the City of Vienna. ITs higher aim is to strengthen the innovation and competitiveness of Austria.

Research with Industry

Transfer of technology from science to industry is no empty phrase but rather the daily agenda of VRVis. With a solid fundament in basic research VRVis sees itself as a bridge between academia and industry and conducts applied research for its company partners which lead to joint product development.

The steadily growing customer- and partner-network encompasses international corporations like Microsoft (Vexcel) as well as leading national companies like AVL. VRVis know-how can be found in the 3D-models of Microsoft Virtual Earth® and also in many pioneering visualizations in areas such as medicine and engineering.

ICT Research of International Reputation

Since its foundation, VRVis is striving to accumulate visibility and recognition far beyond national borders - with success! In 2007 at one of the most important visualization conferences 8 out of 56 accepted papers were submitted VRVis and the Institute for Computergraphics from the TU-Vienna had - this meant Nr. 1 in Europe.

An up-to-date study about the ICT location Vienna shows, that VRVis is conducting world-class ICT research. This is reflected not only by the quality and quantity of international business partners, but also through cooperations with international renowned research institutes. Currently VRVis is working together with Harvard University on an ambitious project in the field of brain study where new ways to handle huge amount of visual data are explored.
