Multidisciplinary Modelling and Visualization: Visualization of simulation data in the automotive and other industries - especially for rigid body systems like chain drives, water pumps, cooling jackets etc.

Predictive design analysis (simulation) becomes more and more important in the automotive and other industries. The output from the simulation tools are simulation data sets describing chain drives, water pumps, cooling jackets, automotive cabin interiors, virtual flow tunnel, etc. These data sets are huge and it is often very difficult for an engineer to analyze the data without various visualization tools. The main goal of this project is to develop advanced visualization tools which will help engineers in data analysis and exploration. These tools will be mostly based on the achievements of the basic research project "CFD and Multibody Visualization". As simulation will be more and more used, producing more and more data we strive to offer competitive visualization techniques which will make it easier for the user to cope with a really huge amount of data. Clever combination of InfoVis and SciVis techniques can speed up the analysis and exploration of simulation results significantly. Finding this clever combination is our long-term goal in the project.

Solution/Newness

We were especially successful in developing new texture based flow visualization techniques. We have tested the new techniques on numerous cases together with engineers from automotive engine design.
