One major aspect of real environments is the incredible amount of geometric detail. In order to overcome this problem when trying to render such environments we intend to encode highly complex models with a compact rule-based representation that makes it possible to generate highly complex models only in those parts where they are actually viewed

One major aspect of photo-realistic images is the incredible amount of geometric detail that is necessary to represent the rendered scene. Storing all of this geometry as polygon data is wasteful of memory and disk space, and disregards structural information that is present when modelling the scene. In order to overcome this problem we intend to encode highly complex models with a compact rule-based representation that makes it possible to generate highly complex models only in those parts where they are actually viewed. By using the memory of a PC as a cache for the generated data, and by keeping all data in memory it will be possible to render these highly complex models in real-time.
Solution/Newness

Our major innovation is to encode arbitrary complex geometric shapes using a compact rule-based representation, which is used to generate on-demand geometry when needed, with as much detail as needed.
