ENGVIS
Interactive Visualization and Analysis for Engineering Applications
Interactive Visualization represents data graphically in order to help the user to understand the data and get a deeper insight into the data. The data we are dealing with comes mostly from simulations of car engines. Simultion software computes a huge amount of temporal and multi variate data. Results from our research help domain experts to cope with the huge data amounts. We have extended supported data model to include set-typed and surface-typed data recently. These extensions were very welcomed by our partners and proved that our research belongs to the state of the art in field of interactive visualization.
The design process of modern engineering systems nowadays is very complex.
A modern complex system, like a car, can be observed on a higher level where each functional part is a unit, but can also be examined in more details, where an engineer can be interested in valve opening time only. The huge scope and various methods applied in simulation on each level resulted in separate solutions. We expect to develop novel techniques which will make it possible to combine more levels; to visualize flow in combustion chamber, e.g., without loosing an overall context. 2D topology maps, 3D flow visualization, information visualization, etc. will be cleverly combined. We expect major scientific contribution in some subfields where we already proved excellence (interactive visual analysis, flow visualization), and in novel combination of 2D and 3D visualization for engineering applications.
The newly developed systems will be evaluated in a tight cooperation with domain experts from associated companies.
