In the fall of 2021, two VRVis researchers, Theresa Neubauer and Silvana Zechmeister, were awarded the Dr. Maria Schaumayer Stiftung's Diploma Thesis Award. The award honors the outstanding achievements of female researchers and aims to actively support and promote the careers of women in business and science.
Theresa Neubauer, a researcher in our Biomedical Image Informatics Group, convinced the jury with her diploma thesis "Volumetric Image Segmentation on Multimodal Medical Images using Deep Learning", in which she presented a deep learning method that combines soft tissue tumor data from MR, CT and PET images for more efficient and precise segmentation.
Silvana Zechmeister, a researcher in our Integrated Simulations Group, developed in her awarded master thesis "Interactive Visualization of Vector Data on Heightfields" a screen-based visualization method, especially for large vector datasets, that solves particular challenges in large GIS applications.
The two researchers accepted their awards together at the ceremony on June 22, 2022. The awards are at the same time a strong proof that good and dedicated supervision of scientific theses, as it is provided at VRVis by our researchers as part of their daily work, definitely contributes to the advancement of young researchers.
