Title
Internship talk and thesis commencement lecture "Reading Times and Error Rates When Interpreting Visualisations"
Abstract
As visualizations become more critical in everyday life, it is crucial to find out how helpful they actually are, especially in comparison to text. This has already been tried to be estimated in several studies. However, no quantitative measure for how faster it is possible to read visualizations compared to text could be found. In this state-of-the-art report, we compared 24 studies, two meta-analyses, and one article on reading times for visualizations. We will also discuss positive and negative characteristics when using visualizations for learning.

Title
"Sustainability and Visual Computing"
Abstract
There is increased popularity of the terms' sustainability' in publications and the internet. Sustainability can be seen as a broad policy concept in the global public discourse and is thought to consist of an environmental, economic, and social dimension. The idea is often considered a long-term goal. At the same time, sustainable development refers to the many processes and pathways to achieve it. This talk will reflect on sustainability and how visual computing (i.e., research at VRVis) can support sustainable development.
