The IEEE VR 2022, hosted out of New Zealand, brought together experts in Extended Reality research from all over the world in a virtual online conference from March 12-16, 2022. Besides highlighting the latest and most relevant research in VR, AR, immersive analytics, and 3D user interfaces, a key focus this year was once again on creating an online environment that utilized virtual environments to encourage social interaction between conference attendees outside the presentations.
This year's program featured two publications authored or co-authored by VRVis researchers.
Our researcher Marina Lima Medeiros presented the paper "The Potential of VR-based Tactical Resource Planning on Spatial Data", written in the Multiple Senses Group at VRVis, in the paper session "Collaboration" on March 15, 2022. In this paper, the potential of immersive head-mounted displays (HMD) for collaborative tactical maneuver and resource planning in virtual reality, collected in the research project "milGeoCoopSandbox", is discussed.
The paper "Immersive Analytics for Ergonomics Evaluation in Virtual Reality", written at TU Graz with the participation of VRVis researcher Katharina Krösl, was part of the workshop "XR for Healthcare and Wellbeing" on March 13, 2022.
Katharina Krösl also participated in the panel "The Past, the Present, and Visions for the Future of IEEE VR" on March 16, 2022. There, she discussed the advantages and limitations of virtual conferences as well as the question of what virtual or hybrid conferences using virtual reality might look like in the future. Moreover, the researcher not only participated as one of the conference's five poster chairs but also received the 2022 VGTC Virtual Reality Best Dissertation Honorable Mention for her dissertation, "Simulating Vision Impairments in Virtual and Augmented Reality."
