From 28 to 30 August 2018 a workshop for international planetary scientists took place at VRVis. Prof. Andrew Coates from the University College London, research director of the PanCam instrument of the ExoMars rover, reported on current developments of this panoramic camera. Prof. Sanjeev Gupta from the Imperial College London, one of the leading geologists of NASA's current Mars mission (Mars Science Laboratory), presented some analyses of current Mars data.
Furthermore, the MINERVA project was presented to the planetary scientists, which is funded by the Austrian Space Program of the FFG (ASAP Program). Within this project VRVis is working together with JOANNEUM Research and the company EOX to develop a 3D-GIS (Geographic Information System) for Mars. This will provide planetary scientists with a spatial and temporal overview of a wide range of data collected by Mars rovers, making analysis much easier for them. The workshop was also about collecting ideas and requirements of the scientists in order to discuss possibilities together.
