Katharina Krösl, researcher at VRVis and TU Vienna, was nominated for the Best Conference Paper with her paper "ICthroughVR: Illuminating Cataracts through Virtual Reality" at the conference IEEE Virtual Reality, which takes place from 23 to 27 March 2019 in Osaka (Japan)!
Krösl and her colleagues simulate eye diseases in Virtual Reality. This enables healthy people to better understand what problems eye diseases such as cataracts entail. This can be used, for example, to find out how lighting fixtures need to be adjusted to avoid unpleasant glare effects or where emergency exit signs need to be positioned so that even visually impaired people can recognize them easily.
Through this and previous research work, Krösl has been able to show that there is, for example, an urgent need to catch up in the labelling and lighting of escape routes in public buildings.
