The platform consists of a large number of repositories and about 100 libraries, which include algorithms and data structures, utilities for functional programming, but also a graph-based incremental evaluation system that goes beyond publish/subscribe. All libraries are netstandard and run on all platforms, while compilation to Javascript is a constant effort. Aardvark's development started at VRVis in 2006, since then the steadily growing platform has long become a powerful tool that is well suited for many applications in the field of visual computing as well as in a whole range of areas such as mathematics, physics, computing, vision, image processing and photogrammetric reconstruction. Examples of possible applications include intelligent geometric reconstruction and modelling tools, physically precise lighting design in real-time and conventional visualizations of infrastructure projects and planetary scans from NASA missions.

We offer the Aardvark software components under various licenses which correspond to different needs: industrial development, industrial and academic research. All commercial licenses are governed by the General Business Terms and Conditions.
This is the license for industrial users who integrate our software components in applications that they commercialize or that they use internally, for example in a production chain. The price of a component is independent from the numbers of developers in the same company using it. We charge a one shot fee, that is there are no royalties to pay when you distribute your software with our components inside.
This is the license for industrial users who cannot immediately amortize software license costs because they work in a research division of a company. The license releases you from the obligation to make your source code publicly available, that is it helps you to protect your intellectual property. The license does not allow the use in production (also internally) or the commercialization of the developed software. We charge an annual fee of 5,000 € per research division of a company for this license and it gives access to all Aardvark components. This is the license for academic users who want the right to not make their code using Aardvark components available to the public. It releases you from the obligation to make your source code publicly available and helps you to protect your intellectual property. The license does not allow the commercialization of the developed software. We charge an annual fee of 1,000 € per research group for this license and it gives access to all Aardvark components.
A number of components are available under the Apache License 2.0. This is an Open Source license that allows integrating Aardvark components in applications used internally, in production process, or sell. The integration has no implication on the license chosen for the end-user application.
All other components are based on the foundation layer and they are available under the Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL). When you integrate an Aardvark component in an application that you distribute, you must also distribute the source code of your software under the AGPL.
We offer maintenance contracts to customers for all components they have licensed, payable as yearly subscription fees. If you are interested in the costs of maintenance, please contact us. This fee includes corrective and adaptive maintenance including defined error classes and reaction times . If a component depends on other components, these must be subscribed too. Maintenance only applies when the system requirements specified for each component are met by the customer.
