Abstract

In tunnel condition assessment, the trend is towards comprehensive 3D measurement combined with high quality image texture to document and quantify damages to the tunnel surface and to create a cohesive data base of the structural conditions throughout its lifespan. The faster such measurements can be made on-site, the less it impacts shut down times to the regular traffic. Also surveying costs and risks of accidents can be reduced and tunnel safety is increased due to faster and more comprehensive test cycles. Dibit Messtechnik GmbH has developed a high-speed 3D measuring system, which is unique worldwide. The system can record the tunnel in high quality in terms of geometric and image resolution at a speed of up to 100 km/h. In-house developed software tools provide possibilities to process and analyse 3D models from the high-speed system, as well as tracing back initial measurement photos from the 3D space. The photorealistic texturing of the 3D model enables the identification and analysis of even the smallest material damage (e.g. cracks >= 0.3 mm wide).
