VIS, the premier forum for developments in visualization and visual analytics, gathered representatives from the international community in Australia from October 22-27, 2023. As with every edition of the conference, the focus was on innovative visualization methods, theories from the field, and current applications. The program for researchers, practitioners from all over the world was busy; in workshops, tutorials or lectures, they could discuss their latest findings and exchange ideas.
Contributions from the VRVis research team at VIS 2023
Johanna Schmidt, head of the Visual Analytics group at VRVis, presented her research on the paper "Visual Analytics for Understanding Draco's Knowledge Base" on October 25, 2023 in Melbourne. In this publication, she and two colleagues describe a visual analytics-based approach that experts can use for a better understanding of the automated recommendation decisions within the design system Draco. As one of the authors of the paper "Data Type Agnostic Visual Sensitivity Analysis", Johanna Schmidt was also involved in another research article presented at VIS.
At VisInPractice, VRVis researcher Kresimir Matković gave the Capstone Talk on October 23, 2023. In his presentation, the head of the Interactive Visualization group provided insights into more than 20 years of visualization research at VRVis, which have been strongly influenced by collaborations with partners from business, industry and academia. Kresimir Matković discussed both the successes of these joint projects and the challenges resulting from this approach.
