Lecture Title
The Lack between Visualization Research and Modern Web-based Visual Analytics Platforms
Lecture Abstract
Web-based visual analytics platforms are becoming increasingly important nowadays. Different concepts have already been realized, based on different programming languages and frameworks. They all try to mimic the underlying programming infrastructure as good as possible to allow users without detailed programming knowledge to create interactive visual dashboards. However, many foundations well-known in visualization research (e.g., overview-first, brushing&linking) are disregarded by these frameworks and platforms. In this talk I will introduce two concepts (Grafana and Plotly Dash), describe their functionality, and compare the interaction possibility to grounded theory on visualization workflows.
