The IEEE Visualization Conference (VIS) is the largest international conference of the data visualization community and has only been held twice in Europe so far. Together with the Vienna COMET Center VRVis Center for Virtual Reality and Visualization, TU Wien and Masaryk University from Brno are organizing the conference, which will take place from 2 to 7 November 2025 at the Austria Center Vienna in Vienna.
Every year, around 1000 scientists meet at the world's leading conference on data analysis and data visualization, the IEEE Visualization Conference, to exchange the latest research results, methods and applications in this field. The conference is coming to Vienna for the first time in 2025. A fact that highlights Austria's position in the field of visual computing: numerous internationally recognized research institutions are based here. Vienna's role as a popular venue is also clearly reflected in this. The conference, which will take place from 2 November to 7 November 2025 at the Austria Center Vienna, is being organized by a consortium of VRVis, TU Wien and Masaryk University.
Vienna as a hub of data visualization expertise in Central Europe
Conferences such as IEEE VIS are an important meeting place for the science community. They enable personal networking and form the basis for research collaborations. The General Chairs of IEEE VIS 2025 are Johanna Schmidt and Krešimir Matković (VRVis), as well as Eduard Gröller (TU Vienna) and Barbora Kozlíková (Masaryk University). More than 1000 participants from all over the world are expected to attend.
Johanna Schmidt and Krešimir Matković head two research groups at the Vienna COMET Centre VRVis, working on visual analytics and interactive visualization, and are looking forward to the event with great anticipation. "VRVis has been very actively involved in IEEE VIS for many years and provides top-class publications and technical contributions for the most important international conference in visualization and visual analytics. We are proud to represent VRVis and Austria as a research location in the global network with our responsibility for this edition of the conference."
Norbert Kettner, Director of Vienna Tourist Board, emphasizes Vienna's role: "Hosting IEEE VIS 2025 in Vienna strengthens our position as a business and science metropolis in the global competition. At the same time, it is a clear signal of the city's continued success on the global stage and the growing demand from the meetings industry, which has returned to pre-pandemic levels. With around 50 major conferences, including six congresses above the 10,000-attendee mark, 2024 is well booked. To keep it that way, we currently have over 200 applications for events up to 2032."
