In the joint research project "Object-centered flood prediction" of VRVis and SOBOS, a start-up company specialized in flood information and warning in Central Europe, the hydrodynamic simulations of the viscloud software were linked to point flood data of the App PegelAlarm. In an app available online and mobile, PegelAlarm by SOBOS offers unified access to historical, current, and forecast watercourse data from many measuring stations in Europe.

Since the establishment of its warning and data services, SOBOS has experienced an increased demand for water body data and, above all, forecasts for water body sections between the measuring stations. Industrial companies, for example, which are located in endangered areas, need local information on the arrival time and height of the flood wave in order to optimize costly protection and evacuation measures. In addition, updated local information supports flood protection personnel in coordinating construction work to protect important infrastructure. Forecasts for private individuals are also of great importance with regard to their homes and personal surroundings. For all these areas of application and individual needs, viscloud's high simulation speed enables area-wide predictions within the shortest possible time. This means that predicted watercourse data at any point, for example, at a river, can be retrieved with sufficient accuracy, quickly and user-defined.

The standardization of the PegalAlarm prediction model using methods of artificial intelligence offers a very cost-effective water level forecast for almost any water catchment area - in stark contrast to previous cost-intensive forecast models that had to be manually adjusted for each catchment area.

The coupled system developed within the research project will in future be offered as a web service for customers via the PegelAlarm application.
