Abstract

The 2017 VAST Challenge is set in a fictional natural preserve surrounded by a small industrial area with four companies and a mid-size city. In this area, the population of a local bird, the Rose- Crested Blue Pipit, is decreasing. The task of the Grand Challenge was to combine findings of the three Mini-Challenges and additional textual data and build a hypothesis about what (and who) could impact the birds population.
